Why come to the Highbury? Why support Amorpha?

This program has three main goals:
- Expand exposure to the arts for students with a focus on underserved areas
- Offer more summer activities for inner city youth
- Counteract the funneling of funds away from the arts in public schools
The S.o.C. offers workshops and classes in Theater, Music and Visual Art for all youth in Milwaukee County for a low cost (scholarships are available; no student will be turned away due to lack of funds). We are working to combine local professionals, educators, and art-lovers to give participants the best learning experience possible. In years to come, the Seeds of Creativity program will consist of smaller groups that will raise money for arts-related needs in Milwaukee Public Schools. With your help, the possibilities are endless.
Why do this?
Public schools suffer from severe budget cuts every year, while standards grow higher and higher. In order to keep academic performance rates up and doors open, school administration often must make the difficult decision to cut certain programs, teachers, and supplies.
Because the arts are often not required or considered in school performance audits and testing, the programs will be scaled down, and eventually disappear.
It’s well-known that art education is an essential part of a child’s growth, and can boost academic performance in areas such as reading, math, and verbal skills, and improves the ability to collaborate, improvise, and think creatively.
If we can give more children a chance to experience and excel in the arts, it could result in higher test scores and grades, and a new generation of people able to think independently.
We can’t exist without your help!
We are gathering volunteers, funds, and supplies in order to start offering our program in June of 2007.
Join us by clicking on the image and filling out the form.
Friends of Amorpha
Proceeds go to cover basic expenses in order to run these programs. There are no millionaire CEO's involved or anyone looking to take home 6 figures, Amorpha is entirely ran by volunteers and those paid well below the poverty level, so you can rest assured that no one is buying a plasma screen with your donations while the kids are left out.

| When Fanboyz attack! R.I.P. Dimebag |
[12 Dec 2004|11:15am] |
I think we need to start keeping an eye on those friends and associates whom seem a little off. The warning signs: -Claims a band stole his shit -Served in the military -likes guns -a little more obsessed than they should be (i.e. a certain Tori Amos freak we know) -Gets depressed if band breaks up or puts out a bad album (i.e. Reinventing the Steel) -Says things like: _____broke up ______! I will kill them (if they say "Scott Stapp broke up Creed! I will kill him!" If you forget they say it, it may not be so bad) -refers to the band or artist as "We" -The biggest sign is not having a life and/or lives with parents
This way this shit doesn't happen again. ODB, Dimebag dude these last few weeks have been shitty for music. Why the hell could't dude just slap him or something? That way they would both still be here. I may dislike a lot of bands (Godsmack, Three Days Grace, Thrice, Bile, White Knuckle Trip, Toby Keith, it's a big list!) but I don't want them to die, just not make any more music. I love Living Colour & I was sad when they broke up but Vernon Reid didn't need to die (especially because they got back together 7 years later) . There is always another option, I just wonder if anybody knew he was that messed up? Personally I think Columbus, OH is a cesspool any way! I also wanted to note that Monday 12/13 marks the 3rd anniversary of the death of Chuck Schudliner (Death, Control Denied) He was a musical wizard and guitar extrodinaire. Check out www.emptywords.org
In other news: i reccomend Coheed and Cambria damn sweet!

 | You scored as alternative. You're partially respected for being an individual in a conformist world yet others take you as a radical. You have no place in society because you choose not to belong there - you're the luckiest of them all, even if your parents are completely ashamed of you. Just don't take drugs ok?

| My letter to the Al Franken show |
[18 Nov 2004|07:20pm] |
I like listening to air america and The Al Franken Show, but I was wondering when will you be having David Cobb Green Party Presidential candidate on. Cobb and Libertarian candidate Michael Bednarik are leading the Ohio recount effort. They are taking on the fight to make sure everyone's vote counts, a promise broken by the Kerry/Edwards campaign. Now as a network that claims to be progressive, wouldn't it make sense to have truly progressive David Cobb on your show? I belive this is your opportunity to show integrity as progrssive radio, instead of cheerleaders for the Dems. So which one is it? Damien Jones WI Green Party

In looking for ways to deal with stress in general I thought that maybe I would start posting more. I have couple of people who have posted more in a week than I have in almost 4 years of livejournal. So am starting to think that I missed to many signs this and that I didn't go with instinct enough because instinct doesn't usually have instant results. This year there were a lot of gut feelings that I went against because of complications upfront. With lessons learned I now must focus on my own freedom and the future. I hate to think that personal experiences work in yearly cycles, but I would love to see a new year. A lot of "I's" in this post but that is mainly because I just don't post enough. peace love and splenda

| Louisville week 7 |
[28 May 2004|07:57pm] |
I have been training for ACORN a community organization for since april 12th. I am fond of the work I do I hate the hours and the pressure of trying to organize hundreds of people into a big public meeting with 2 more weeks left before the meeting, all while to trying to sign up more members. I am freaking the hell out. But its ok. Soon I will be back to my life in Milwaukee putting things back in place as well as experiencing a wonderfull time for the greens. This time has given me a lot of time to think, hopefully giving me a new focus on my goals in life. Unfortunately, this job while reaches a goal of a living wage (in 55 hours a week!), it falls short of many aspiratiions. I thought it was a little rash at first to be comtemplating my next step in achieving my goals, but now I realize it is one of three things keeping me here. The others being debt and family. While I aspire to do more involving creativity, it won't happen unitl i reach fiscal solvency. Damn lack of a silver spoon. Family you are missed Friends you are missed Dreams you are only being treated with yearning and calculation I try not to be so damn cryptic and meloncholy but I have just had a weird two months!
June 24th I drive to Milwaukee hopefully never to return until i choose to...

I heard about your site through one of your people emailing the wrong side of the spectrum. I serioulsy thought this was a joke. But sadly your organization is SERIOUS! What was laughable is now sickening and deplorable. Hypocrisy and insanity flows through this site like the Clinton impeachment movement. Your site has little to no facts and contradicts itself more than Rush Limbaugh talking about the war on drugs. Try to support your position with truth, not rhetoric and scare tactics. You criticize the "crazy liberals" but why? Is it because the truth scares you, or do you truly believe what you spew? If you do beleive then let me give you a tour through the cocaine farms and gun factories of the inner city. Hopefully we can survive the evil you support.

| Bernie Mac said it best: "sick of this shit, what type of shit it is" |

I have been trying my best to steer away from dusting off the soapbox for a while now opting to stick to research for articles. I have been reading a lot of stuff that has really upset me, I have talked myself out of: letters to the fools (editors) at The Racine Journal Times and The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Driving to Madison to snap on the state legislature for being so ignorant to Wisconsins problems which shows a need for sweeping change come election time. Finding a spell to shut Bush's mouth altogether, as well as a boot for any part of congress or the senate that has turned their back on the people in the name of greed.
All that would make for a busy week. Ending in a cruel taste of "Patriot Act" treatment, if I could get out alive which is impossible for a black guy. I would like to give temporary emotional relief by doing a little venting through LJ to keep my engagment, friendships, emails, green party yahoo groups, and articles from becoming tainted by my anger.
until next time: think... more

| 3rd district results and other rantings |
[18 Feb 2004|09:23am] |
Michael D'Amato (inc) 6,353 55% Carole Wehner 2,783 24% Benjamin Robert Goodhue 1,007 9% Damien Jones 732 6% Timothy Vertz 622 6%
Well, 732 votes isn't bad at all. The race was quite a learning experience, it was really tough at times. I spent most of December suffering from complications with Diabetes which resulted in a near death week long stay in the hospital(im doing pretty good now by the way) I sold my message to a lot of people which will carry over into other endeavors.
( My thoughts on the two who remain: ) Activism and political involvement for me will be just as prominent, just not focused on myself. I have a proposal that I will be bringing to MPS as soon as it is drafted. There are some other things I hope to bring to the city of Milwaukee as well. Also, I will be working on bringing the most lively vibrant convention to the '04 presidential race. That convention is the US Green Party national convention June 24-27. There we will be providing the country an alternative to the Republicrat duopoly, just looking at John Kerry is a reflection of how the top of the Dems are just as bought off as the GOP. Aside from the "anyone but Bush" mantra people need an alternative, and we will provide that. I must urge everyone to not choke democracy or waste their time talking up the spoiler myth.
So I say work for the good of humanity and and let the chips fall where they may.
PEACE THROUGH MUSIC!

Campaign Update 1/30/04
Damien Jones for 3rd district Alderperson Milwaukee,WI
www.damienjones.org
17 days left
Greetings from campaign trail '04,
I am now in the process of gathering resources for the last push before the primary Feb. 17th. Regardless of weather, I am doing whatever possible to get my name and the issues out. Starting Feb. 3rd the momentum will be "kicked up notches unknown to man" (Emeril Lagasse quote). To invoke the spirit of grassroots democracy it will take a strong plan of action to get this done. Thats where a little help from my friends is most needed, so please consider this when figuring out your time for the next 2 1/2 weeks.
Peace through action, happiness through art, liberation through education-
Damien-
